Waiting on Wednesday (37)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly, bookish meme created and hosted by Jill. You can find out more information on her blog, Breaking the Spine.

The meme helps book bloggers and readers shine a spotlight om some of the many upcoming releases that we are all patiently (but most likely impatiently) waiting on. Get it?

It's pretty simple to participate in Waiting on Wednesday:

  • Create your own Waiting on Wednesday post that features an upcoming title (or titles)
  • Be sure to credit Jill in your post

What I'm Waiting On...

Title: The Forbidden Wish
Author: Jessica Khoury
Publisher: Razorbill (Penguin Teen)
Publication Date: February 23, 2016
She is the most powerful Jinni of all. He is a boy from the streets. Their love will shake the world...

When Aladdin discovers Zahra's jinni lamp, Zahra is thrust back into a world she hasn't seen in hundreds of years -- a world where magic is forbidden and Zahra's very existence is illegal. She must disguise herself to stay alive, using ancient shape-shifting magic, until her new master has selected his three wishes.

But when the King of the Jinn offers Zahra a chance to be free of her lamp forever, she seizes the opportunity—only to discover she is falling in love with Aladdin. When saving herself means betraying him, Zahra must decide once and for all: is winning her freedom worth losing her heart?

As time unravels and her enemies close in, Zahra finds herself suspended between danger and desire in this dazzling retelling of Arabian Nights from acclaimed author Jessica Khoury.

Why I'm Waiting...

It's been a while since I've read Kalahari, Jessica's last book, but I loved her story-telling abilities. I promised myself that I'd read the rest of her Corpus series and anything else she'd be writing in the future.

When I found out Jessica had written an Aladdin retelling, it went to the top of my Aladdin retellings list because I'm obviously a fan of Jessica Khoury. The Forbidden Wish also went to the top of that list because this novel seems like it's going to be the most original out of all of the upcoming Aladdin stories.
